In Search of a Grammar of Melody 

For theory buffs and fearless explorers of song: can we meet together for five days and agree on the basic components of melody and how they inter-relate?  I have the conviction that there are rules which govern lasting works: can we articulate them?  Come sing, study, trade ideas and try!

Join Alice at her home in Hawley for a week of intensive singing and analysis of many genres of melody.  The class is limited to eight participants, so there is time for much individual interchange as well as perfecting skills as performers and improvisers.  Reconnect with your own sound, which is the foundation of music-making.  Refresh your own enjoyment of choral sound, and listen with new ears.

 We will share the cost and preparation of our meals together.  Housing will be available on Singing Brook Farm.   

We will supply transportation to and from the train at Springfield, MA or the airport at Hartford, CT. Ask us for driving instructions.  Contact Kay Holt to make specific arrangements for this transportation. 

Minimum class size 4; maximum 8

Fee:  $750 plus $20 non-refundable application fee
