February 22-25, 2023
“Spirituals: A Conversation with Alice Parker and André Thomas” will be premiered at the ACDA convention this coming February. In this hour-long video, André Thomas, currently ACDA President and Visiting Professor of Conducting and Interim Conductor of the Yale Camerata, interviews Alice using questions submitted by choral directors around the country regarding various aspects of Spirituals: origins, authenticity, performance practice, vocal color, the oral tradition, and more. As they compare their rich experiences, they bring both insight and humor to a probing analysis of this unique and important genre of song.
