Explore a period in American history when hymn-singing was a popular pastime. These selections from Alice Parker’s opera, based on the life of Joseph Funk, present settings of tunes and texts from Genuine Church Music/Harmonia Sacra, one of the favorite hymnals of the period. (It is still in print, in its 25th edition.) Among the hymn tunes are these foundations of Christian hymnody: Invocation, Social Band, Resignation, Greenfields, Daughter of Zion, and Divine Goodness.

Performed by the Musicians of Melodious Accord conducted by Alice Parker.
